Tournament Pairings

Pairings for the 89th IHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament Series will be televised live by the IHSAA Network at 11 a.m. EST on Sunday, February 21. Check local listings for the station broadcasting the show in your area. The pairings also will be posted on the IHSAA website that day at approximately 1 p.m. under Boys Basketball/1999 Tournament Pairings.

 

Sectionals

Dates & Times

March 1, 2, 4, 5, 1999

Monday, March 1: 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday, March 2: 7:30 p.m. if one game; 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. if two games.

Thursday, March 4: Semifinals; games at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Friday, March 5: Championship game, 7:30 p.m.

 

Format

4-Team Fields: Will play two semifinal games on Thursday; championship on Friday.

5-Team Fields: Will play one first-round game on Tuesday, two semifinal games on Thursday, championship on Friday. The team drawing the first-round bye will play the Tuesday night winner in the second semifinal game on Thursday.

6-Team Fields: Will play two first-round games on Tuesday, two semifinals on Thursday, championship on Friday. The two teams drawing first-round byes will play in the second semifinal game on Thursday.

7-Team Fields: Will play one first-round game on Monday, two first-round games on Tuesday, two semifinals games on Thursday, championship game on Friday. The team drawing the first-round bye will play in the first game Thursday against the winner of Monday's first game.

Format

All but six of the regional sites will play host to two regional championship games. Games will be played in the order listed. The winner of each game advances to semi-state competition. Pairings are pre-determined: i.e. Sectional 1 winner plays Sectional 2 winner; Sectional 3 winner plays Sectional 4 winner, etc.

State Finals

Dates & Times

Saturday, March 27, 1999 at RCA Dome, Indianapolis

Session I (Class A followed by 2A) – 11 a.m.

Session II (Class 3A followed by 4A) – 6:30 p.m.

 

Format

Two teams in each class will advance from semi-state competition to play in the state finals. The state finals will consist of two sessions: Session I features the Class A championship game followed by the Class 2A championship. Session II will have the Class 3A title game followed by the Class 4A game.

 

Ticket Information

Reserved tickets can be purchased by contacting the IHSAA at 317-846-6601 Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., EST. Orders must be received before January 29, 1999. Tickets will go on sale at each of the participating schools the week of the state finals. Contact participating schools for ticket distribution hours. Tickets also will be on sale at the RCA Dome Box Office the week of the state finals and on game day. The box office phone number is 317-262-3389.

Tournament of Champions

Saturday, April 3, 1999 at Hinkle Fieldhouse, Butler University, Indianapolis.

Session I – 11:05 a.m (two games).

Session II – 8:05 p.m. (championship game).

 

Format

Pairings will be announced February 21. Two semifinal games will be played with the winners of those games playing for the Tournament of Champions title in the evening.
