380 SCHOOLS SET FOR 23RD STATE TOURNAMENT

A field of 380 teams will begin play Feb. 17in the 23rd Annual IHSAA Girls Basketball Tournament Series. For the first time, champions will be crowned in four classes on March 14 at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis. The four class champions will move on to the inaugural Tournament of Champions March 20 and 21 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. 

Sectional play is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, Feb. 21. The 64 sectional winners -- 16 in each of the four classes -- will advance to a one-game regional on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 32 sites across the state. 

The 32 regional champions -- eight in each of four classes -- will advance to semi-state competition on March 7. There will eight semi-states -- two in each of the four classes. At each semi-state site, two first-round games will be played the morning of March 7, followed by the semi-state championship game that night. The eight semi-state champions -- two in each of the four classes -- will advance to the state finals on March 14 at Market Square Arena. 

At the state finals, there will be a championship game in each of the four classes, beginning with Class A at 11 a.m. and followed immediately by the Class 2A game. After a mid-afternoon break, the second session will begin with the Class 3A championship game at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Class 4A championship game. 

Those four class champions will play March 20 and 21 in the Tournament of Champions. Conducted by blind draw, the Tournament of Champions pairings have the Class A winner meeting the Class 4A winner in the opening game, followed by the Class 2A winner against the Class 3A winner. The first-round winners will return the following day to play in the championship game.

6-Team Sectionals (41 sites) -- Will play two first-round games at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17. The fifth and sixth teams listed will play each other in the first game of the semifinals on Feb. 20.

5-Team Sectionals (Batesville, Concord, Evansville Central, Logansport, Milan, New Haven, Owen Valley, Shenandoah, Southmont, Tecumseh, Wes-Del, West Washington) -- Will play one first-round game at 7 p.m. Feb. 17; two semifinal-round games at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20.
