FINALS SUMMARY
It was clear from
the outset that the
In the morning
session, the lady Greyhounds lost only a total of ten games in their five
matches, defeating Penn 5-0. They came
back equally as strong in the championship matchup
with Jasper, knocking off the Wildcats 5-0, dropping only eight games as they
captured their third state crown.
For
Zionsville (20-2)
defeated Penn (20-3), 5-0, in the consolation match.
LAUREN
WOODWARD OF PENN WINS MENTAL ATTITUDE AWARD
Lauren Woodward
of
Award. At
the conclusion of the state finals, the IHSAA Executive Committee presents an
award for mental attitude to an outstanding senior participant. The recipient of this award, who was
nominated by her principal and coach, must excel in mental attitude,
scholarship, leadership and athletic ability in tennis.
Lauren was a
member of the Penn state finals team in 2002 and 2003. Ranking 49th in her class of 640,
this year she was named to the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association
Academic All-State Team and selected Northern Indiana Conference
All-Conference Honorable Mention for the second consecutive time.
She has been
awarded an Academic Honors Diploma, High Honors Award,
President’s Education Award, Penn Fine Arts Division Senior Band Award and has
been named Fischoff National Chamber Music
Association Artist of the Month in October, 2002.
Lauren has
received the Howard Hanson and George Eastman Scholarships to attend the
Eastman School of Music in
Farm Bureau
