SECOND STRAIGHT GIRLS SINGLES TENNIS TITLE
Senior Ashlee
Davis of Anderson Highland captured her second consecutive IHSAA girls tennis state singles
championship on
It brought to an end a
marvelous career winning streak of 47 matches for Davis, who did not drop a set
to any opponent during the season and the state tourney and ended the season at
24-0.
Heavy rains forced the
morning session indoors to the Indianapolis Racquet Club East, but the
afternoon session was contested under clearing, sunny skies at North Central
(Indpls.)
In doubles competition,
Carmel grabbed the school’s second championship in the event, having also
emerged victorious in 1981, as senior Jessica Thompson and junior Elizabeth
Steele combined talents for a 6-3, 6-1 win over Homestead juniors Brooke
Parrish and Connie Shim on June 14, 2003 at North Central (Indpls.) High School. The
Greyhounds finished the season at 28-0 as they never dropped a set in
post-season play.
Thompson and Steele had
advanced to the finals with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over senior Kelly Bremer and
sophomore Ruchika Agrawal

One week earlier, the
Greyhounds, under head coach Sharon Rosenburgh, had
captured the team tennis title on the same courts.
