NORTH CENTRAL (Indpls.) CAPTURES GIRLS TEAM TENNIS TITLE
North
Central (Indpls.) High School captured the 2004 IHSAA Girls
Team Tennis State Championship under near perfect weather conditions on their
home courts in
The Panthers
rolled past Evansville Memorial in the morning round, 4-1, and then shutout
The only match
North Central (Indpls.) lost all day was a
hard-fought battle of the Number-one singles representatives in the morning
round, as Kara Courtney of Evansville Memorial defeated Sara Lett 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3).
Lett came back in the afternoon session with a
dominating performance against
Mental Attitude
Award winner Hillary Friedman finishes her high school career with a perfect
29-0 season mark, as she won over Amy Recht in
straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
Both Panther
doubles teams finished the year at 25-3, with Anne Pennington teaming with
Elizabeth Waggoner and Pam Geselichen joining forces
with Phoebe Meier.
For North Central
(Indpls.), it was their 12th team title (1976, 1977, 1978, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1992, 1997,
1999, 2002, 2004).
It was head coach Heather Iffert’s fourth
state crown (1997, 1999, 2002, 2004)
HILLARY FRIEDMAN OF NORTH CENTRAL (INDPLS.)
CAPTURES MENTAL ATTITUDE AWARD
Hillary
Friedman of North Central (Indpls.)High School was named winner of the 2004
Girls Tennis Mental Attitude Award. At
the conclusion of the state finals, the IHSAA Executive Committee presents an
award for mental attitude to an outstanding senior participant. The recipient of this award, who was
nominated by her principal and coach, must excel in mental attitude, scholarship,
leadership and athletic ability in tennis.
Hillary was a
member of the Panthers’ team state championship squad, picking up a pair of
victories on the day: 6-2, 7-5 vs.
Lauren Hofmann of Evansville Memorial; 6-1, 6-2 vs. Amy Recht
of
Academically, she ranks 34th in her class of 636 and is a
two-year member of the National Honor Society.
She has also served as Junior and Senior Class Council Representative
and as a member of the Key Club. She
will attend the
She captured the
North Central (Indpls.) Leadership Award in 2002 and
has picked up a pair of North Central (Indpls.)
Service Awards, along with three Academic Letter Awards and two Student of the Month Awards.
Hillary is the
daughter of Suzanne and Howard Friedman of
Farm Bureau
Insurance, IHSAA corporate partner, presented a check for $1,000.00 to North
Central (Indpls.) High School in
the name of Hillary Friedman.
