IHSAA OVERTIME

Tri-County boys basketball coach Josh Kendrick has resigned and taken a position at Kokomo as a varsity

assistant. Kendrick went 33-35 in 3 years at Tri-County, including 13-10 this past season when his team won the White County Tourney.

West Central’s head football coach, Damon Groves, has resigned to take a position as athletic director at John Glenn.  Brad Urban has been hired to coach the Trojans.  Urban spent this past season as head coach at Jay County.  He played on two state championship teams at Sheridan.  Also, Bill Ball is stepping down after 11 years as baseball coach at West Central.  He will remain in the classroom

Tom Drake has stepped aside as head football coach at Hagerstown.

After 17 seasons on the job, Lee DeTurk is retiring at athletic director at Churubusco.  He has been involved in education for 38 years as a teacher and coach at a number of schools.

Jim Noffsinger, coach of both and girls track and cross county teams at union county, has retired.

Bloomington South has hired Meg Montgomery as softball coach, replacing retiring Jody Duncan; Mike Smith as boys soccer coach, replacing Chris Doran; and Kim Prashaw as girls golf coach, replacing retiring Jan Britton.

Mike Buczkowski has resigned as baseball coach at Caston.  He will stay on at the school as a teacher.

Corey Williamson is the new head football coach at Gary Mann.  He was already a member of the communications department at the school.

Crown Point baseball coach Chad Bush has offered up his resignation.  He had taken over this year for Ed Sherry who had coached the Bulldogs for 20 seasons.

Sara Detmer is leaving her position as girls softball coach at South Dearborn.

Western boys soccer coach, Adrian DeBoy, has resigned to begin work on his master’s degree.

Duane Potts takes over as football coach at Owen Valley, replacing Troy Burgess who has moved on to the same position at Greenfield-Central.

After six seasons, R.C. Ganser is leaving as baseball coach at Mishawaka Marian to relocate in Miami, Florida.

 57-year old Ed Woodrick, who coached football and track in the Munster School Corporation for 22 years, died unexpectedly on June 18.

Dave Shelbourne takes over as the new football coach at Avon.  He was an assistant at North Central (Indpls) for the past two seasons and prior to that was head coach at Warren Central for 11 years.

Ralph Shrader, who led Attica to the Class A boys basketball title in 2001 and then became assistant principal at Fountain Central last year, has been named basketball coach at the Veedersburg school.  He takes over for Joe Luce, who spent the past four seasons at Fountain Central, and has been named boys basketball coach at Benton Central, succeeding Pat Skaggs who resigned in early June after seven seasons with the Bison to move to Anderson Highland.

Jennings County has named Rick Zimmerman as new head football coach.  He was a coach at Perry Meridian for eight seasons, the last five as offensive coordinator.

Ray Schultz has returned from retirement to assume the head football coaching duties at Indianapolis Manual, succeeding Doug Armstrong, who resigned to take over as coach at New Palestine.  Schultz has previously coach the Redskins from 1973-84.

Northwest has named Victor Bush as boys basketball coach, with Otis Curry moving into the athletic director’s chair.  Bush was head coach at Columbus East the last three seasons.

Aaron Charles has been named boys basketball coach at Clinton Central.  He replaces Kyle Barrentine who resigned after four years to become the assistant principal at Western Middle School.

Todd Jarry is the new volleyball coach at Northwestern.  He has nine years of coaching experience in New Mexico.

Elwood has hired Drew Richardson as its varsity volleyball coach replacing Angie O’Donnell, who will become an assistant track and cheerleading coach at the school.  Richardson spent the last two campaigns as an assistant at Muncie Central.

Following six seasons on the job, Bill Alter has announced his resignation as baseball coach at Oak Hill to devote more time to his position as Marion PAL Club director.

Jim Martin takes over as athletic director and boys basketball coach at Cardinal Ritter in Indianapolis after 22 years at Heritage Christian, the past 14 as athletic director and 13 of the past 14 as boys basketball coach.  He replaces Michael Holmes who left for a coaching position in Iowa.

Jill Meerman is stepping down as girls basketball coach at Decatur Central after six seasons, but will remain as assistant athletic director.

Mike Megyese, softball coach at South Bend Riley for the last eight seasons, has announced his decision to resign.  Megyese will continue as girls head basketball coach at South Bend St. Joseph’s.

Kokomo athletic director, Jim Callane, will be inducted into the DePauw University Athletic Hall of Fame on October 12.  Callane was a 1964 graduate of DePauw and the eighth-leading scorer in school basketball history at the time.

Collin McCart has been approved as boys basketball coach at Prairie Heights and will also teach physical education and health.  McCart replaces Steve Wiktorowski who resigned at the end of last season.

Dick Kretz is the new boys golf coach at Portage.  He is an assistant varsity basketball coach and has been a volunteer with the Indians’ golf team the past three seasons.

Marty Harshman as stepped down as boys basketball coach at South Bend St. Joseph’s after one season.

After 15 seasons as the junior varsity coach, Doug Ogle has been selected as the new boys basketball coach at Warsaw, replacing Al Rhodes who resigned at the end of last season.

Michelle Sanson is the new athletic director at Lafayette Central Catholic, replacing Jim Jovanovic who takes over as principal at the school following Dave Worland’s departure for Indianapolis Cathedral.  Sanson was the girls golf coach and junior varsity girls basketball coach this past season at McCutcheon.

Denny Schwegman has called it quits as baseball coach at East Central after three seasons.

The head basketball coach at Hammond Bishop Noll , Adam Patai, has submitted his resignation, with plans to move to Las Vegas where he and his wife have acquired teaching positions.

At South Vermillion, Ryan Luce has been named boys basketball coach and Rene Foli will take over as athletic director and continue as football coach.  Earlier, Dave Mahurin had resigned as AD and boys basketball coach to move to Rockville as assistant principal.

Tom Spina, girls basketball coach at Hammond Gavit the past three seasons, has submitted his resignation.

Merrillville has named Bob Maicher as its new girls basketball coach.  He replaces Joe Poteet, who resigned after four seasons with the Pirates.  Maicher coached at Munster from 1974-81.

Tom Bajzatt hs returned to the boys basketball coaching position he held from 1988-91 at Tri-County.  He replaces Joshua Kendrick, who left to become an assistant at Kokomo.

Teressa Lewis has resigned her position as girls basketball coach at Brebeuf Jesuit after five seasons.

Chad Wetz, Anderson’s boys basketball JV coach, has been approved as the new girls basketball coach with the Indians.  Mike King, coach of the boys freshman team the past two years, will join him as an assistant.

West Vigo has selected Steve DeGroote as its new girls basketball coach, replacing Dave Cassell, who replaced Chris Barrett as the Vikings’ football coach in February.  DeGroote will remain the school baseball and girls cross country coach, as well as a health teacher.

 

At Kokomo, Jim Jameson takes over as baseball coach, Jason Snyder as boys golf coach and Shawn Flanary as boys tennis coach.

 

Kent Ramey was hired as basketball coach at Mitchell, stepping in for Gary Sims, who coached the Bluejackets for nine seasons.

 

Troy Akers has resigned as boys track coach at Wawasee.  He plans to remain at the school as an assistant principal and assistant football coach.

 

South Bend Adams has named Brian Burkart as its new head football coach, succeeding Mike McClure who departed for Elkhart Central.

 

South Central (Union Mills) has tabbed Travis Flora as it’s new football coach.  He replaces Bob Holmes who moves on to Michigan City.

 

Brad Smith is the new coach in charge of girls basketball at Carroll (Flora), replacing Dave Schneider who resigned following last season.

 

Michael Hill gets his first head football coaching position at Jay County.  Brad Urban resigned the job in June.

 

Steve Brett, athletic director at Loogootee, also takes over the head basketball coaching position with the Lions, replacing Jack Butcher, who retired last month after 45 years at the school.

 

Rich Schelsky, longtime baseball coach at Rockville, will take over as the boys head basketball coach this season, replacing Mitch Lancaster, who resigned in the spring to become the head boys basketball coach at Northview.

 

Chesterton has named Mike Rouse as the new girls cross-country coach.  He replaces Steve Kearney.

 

Zionsville has chosen Greg Hall as the Eagles’ new athletic director, stepping in for Kirby Whitacre, who has traveled north to Mishawaka as A.D.

 

Bloomington South has hired a pair of new coaches for its fall sports programs.  Matt Wilhoit takes over in girls soccer and Joe Doyle is now in charge of boys tennis.  Earlier this spring, Jan Britton and Jody Duncan retired from the Panthers’ girls golf and softball sidelines.

 

Tim Reagan is the new man in charge of football at Hagerstown, replacing Tom Drake, who was head coach for a dozen years.  Drake resigned in June, but will remain on the coaching staff as an assistant.  Reagan was the offensive coordinator for the Tigers during that 12-year span.

 

Craig Helfrich, who was softball coach at Warsaw for four seasons before stepping down prior to last year to pursue his master’s degree, has been re-named head coach of the Tigers.  He replaces Kurt Burner.

 

After five seasons, DeKalb girls basketball coach Mark Rohm has announced his resignation, but will stay with the school as a teacher and computer technology consultant.

 

Michael Haisten takes over as boys soccer coach at Mishawaka.  He replaces Dennis Jay who resigned.

 

Former Andrean coach Jeff Karras has been named head football coach at Hammond Clark.  He takes over for Artie Rogers, who left after one season for a job in Illinois.

 

The South Bend School Corporation has reinstated the position of corporation athletic director, vacant since 1994, and named former LaSalle athletic director Nan Tulchinsky to the post.

 

Steve Moritz, for the past seven years administrative assistant to the athletic director at Marion, has been named interim A.D. for the Giants, follokwing the resignation of Jim Fricke.

 

Following four seasons as Castle head basketball coach, Steve Brunes has accepted a similar position at Columbus East.  He replaces Victor Bush, who moved to the basketball coaching position at Indianapolis Northwest.

 

Corey Williamson is the choice as new head football coach at Gary Mann.  He was an assistant track coach with the Horsemen last season.  He steps in for Fred Nolan who resigned.

 

Steve Nestich has been hired as girls basketball coach at Hammond Gavit, filling the spot left open by the recent resignation of Tom Spina.  Nestich had been girls coach at Hammond Morton the past six years.

 

Whiting has announced the signing of Joe Pokraka, former girls basketball varsity assistant at Hammond Bishop Noll, as its new girls basketball leader.  He replaces Paul Laub who retired after 26 years with the Oilers.

 

Scott Rost is leaving the head coaching post with the girls softball team at Elkhart Memorial after four seasons to take over as head baseball coach for the Chargers, moving into a slot vacated by Bob Harvey in June.

 

Hammond Morton has named Reggie Sanderson as its new boys tennis coach.  He succeeds Rick Boner, who was named coach of the Governors’ girls basketball team.
