NFHS SUMMER MEETING TO BE HELD IN SAN DIEGO

The 85th annual National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Summer Meeting will be held July 1-5 at the San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina. The NFHS is the national organization for high school athletics and fine arts programs in speech, debate, music and theatre.

 

Approximately 800 individuals are expected to attend the Summer Meeting, during which 29 workshops and three general sessions regarding various topics will be held featuring distinguished speakers from around the United States. Attendees will be comprised of staff members and board members from the 51 NFHS member state high school associations.

 

DR. JOHN McCARROLL NAMED TEAM PHSICIAN OF THE YEAR

Dr. John McCarroll has been named the Indiana State Medical Association’s Commission on Sports Medicine 2004 Team Physician of the Year. He will be honored at the Indiana Athletic Training Association’s annual awards banquet on Friday, July 9 at the Omni Indianapolis North Hotel.

 

Dr. McCarroll is a member of the staff of Methodist Sports Medicine Center, the Official Sports Medicine Provider of the Indiana High School Athletic Association.

IHSAA OVERTIME

After 35 years, Bill Campbell has retired as wrestling coach at Northfield.  Also, the Norsemen’s girls track coach, Rob Cussen, has resigned and will be replaced by Dennis Walker.

 

Girls basketball coach Kirk Comer is departing Union City to take over the same job at Jay County.

 

Justin Keever takes over as baseball coach at Noblesville.

 

John Mullen, athletic director and assistant principal the past three years at Eastern Greene, has taken the principal's position at Loogootee.  Brian Holland, athletic director, girls basketball coach, and teacher at Eminence for the past four years will serve as athletic director at Eastern Greene in Mullen's place.

 

Robin Courtney has resigned as baseball coach at Evansville Bosse.

 

Bloomington North has approved Andy Hodson as its new boys basketball coach, replacing the retired Tom McKinney.

 

Mickey Hosier, a 1996 Indiana All-Star, has been selected as the boys basketball coach at Marion Lakeview Christian, succeeding Brad Metzger, who has been approved as the new boys basketball coach at Oak Hill.

 

Calumet has selected Brandon Ridenour as the replacement for John Steinhilber as boys basketball coach.

 

Brandon Pennington will take over as boys basketball coach at Cambridge City Lincoln.  He replaces Mike Miller, who resigned.  Pennington will continue as varsity baseball coach.

 

Jennie Moppert has been hired as girls soccer coach at West Lafayette, replacing Patti O’Callaghan.

 

Chesterton has tabbed T.R. Harlan as its new volleyball coach.  He replaces Lorie Jorgensen, who coached the Trojans for 15 years.

 

Bruce Ruble has been named girls basketball coach at Blackford, replacing Mike Richardson.

 

Harrison (West Lafayette) has hired Tom Kanaby as its girls soccer coach.

 

Greenfield-Central announces the hiring of the following head coaches:  volleyball-Jamie Andrews, taking over for Joni Hornaday; girls cross country- Donna McCarty, current girls basketball coach, replacing Joni Meyerholtz; women's soccer-Larry Clark taking over for Chris Tillett; wrestling-Josh Holden, replacing Lance Parsons; softball-Erin Cain, moves up to replace Scott Kern, who resigned.

 

Reggie White has been named girls basketball coach at Pike.  He replaces Amy Cherubini.

 

Roncalli has announced the resignation of John Wirtz as head baseball coach.  He was 619-200 during his 28 seasons with the Rebels and 658-223 during his 32-year career.

 

Kevin Sweeney has been hired as girls basketball coach at Indianapolis Bishop Chatard, replacing Dawn Grinnage.  The school also announced the hiring of Chris Quinn as boys basketball coach, replacing Dan Archer.

 

Frank Craig has been named permanent athletic director at Indianapolis Arsenal Technical.

 

Louis “Bo” Mallard passed away on June 24.  He is the only person to coach Indiana state championship teams in three different sports:  boys track (1951, 1952, 1954); boys cross country (1962); and boys basketball (1968), all at Gary Roosevelt.  He was 93.

 

Mishawaka Marian has hired Monique Hernandez as girls basketball coach.  She replaces James Aldridge.

 

Steve Proctor has taken over the girls basketball coaching position at Fairfield, replacing Brent Miller.

 

The Nettle creek School Board has approved Chad Romack as Hagerstown’s new boys basketball coach.  He steps in for Scot Houck, who resigned earlier.

 

Missy McCutchan has resigned as girls basketball coach at Evansville North.

 

After 14 seasons as head baseball coach at West Noble, Tim Schermerhorn has tendered his resignation.
