IHSAA AND INDIANA CRIMINAL JUSTICE INSTITUTE

EMPOWERING INDIANA YOUTH TO MAKE RIGHT CHOICE

Students often learn by watching others. Research suggests that those who have positive role models in their lives are less likely to make poor lifestyle choices.

True role models aren’t the superheroes of the sports and the entertainment industry.  They are everyday people who make a difference through outstanding achievements, significant community service, leadership and inspiration to others.

That is why the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (CJI) are partnering to provide an opportunity to honor the young men and women who are serving as role models in their respective high schools, communities and ultimately all of Indiana.

“The IHSAA is very proud of the example our student-athletes set for their peers as well as for elementary and middle school students,” said Blake Ress, Commissioner of the IHSAA. “Teens involved in this project are examples of athletes in every Indiana high school who are excellent students and outstanding role models.”

Throughout the school year, athletes from 71 different Indiana high schools and seven different sports will be featured and highlighted in posters, movie theater advertisements, and radio and television commercials. The common theme through each message is asking Indiana youth – “What’s your choice?” A detailed list of athletes is included below.

“These particular students are phenomenal role models to the youth of Indiana,” said Joe Koenig, executive director of CJI. “They are committed to making the right choices to help make themselves, their peers, families and communities safer and healthier.”
