 IHSAA BOARD OF DIRECTORS RESULTS

The IHSAA Board of Directors election was held by mail vote in each of the IHSAA Districts between December 1st and 10th, 2003 and presented to the current Board at its monthly meeting December 11.

Capturing the Female Seat for the North District was Nancy J. Alspaugh, Principal at Manchester High School, who will begin serving a three-year term on July 1, 2004.  The Urban Seat for the North District went to Janis Qualizza, Athletic Director at Merrillville High School, and a current member of the Board.  She will also serve a three-year term beginning July 1, 2004.

In the South District, the Female Seat was awarded to Pam Noble of Connersville High School.  She is the Athletic Director there and also a member of the current Board.  Her three-year term will begin July 1, 2004.  The Minority Seat was captured by another current Board member, Roy Simpson, Principal at Indianapolis Northwest High School, with his three-year term starting on July 1, 2004.  On that same date, Paul Neidig, Athletic Director for Evansville Central High School, will begin his service as the Urban Seat representative for the South District.

The District III Class AAAA race was won by William T. Amerson, Principal at Jeffersonville High School, who will complete a term that runs until June 30, 2006, replacing John Williams.  Williams, who had won re-election to the Board as District III Class AAAA representative in December of 2002, left Evansville Harrison High School in June to become Principal at Carmel High School.

2003-04 GIRLS BASKETBALL SECTIONAL SITE CHANGE

At the request of the six schools involved, the site of Sectional #44 of the 2004 IHSAA Girls Basketball Tournament has been changed.  Originally granted to Milan, the IHSAA Executive Committee, at their meeting on December 11, 2003, granted the request by Lawrenceburg, Milan, North Decatur, South Ripley, Southwestern (Hanover) and Switzerland County to move the sectional to Switzerland County.

It was also determined at that meeting that the Regional site host for the winners of Sectionals 41-44 will be Indian Creek.

The complete list of boys and girls 2003-04 basketball tournament sites is on the web at 03-04 Girls/Boys Basketball Tourney Sites.

IHSAA/IBCA/ICGSA BASKETBALL SHOWCASES APPROVED

The IHSAA Executive Committee has approved the dates and location for the 2004 IHSAA/IBCA/ICGSA Basketball Showcases.  One hundred of the top underclassmen in the state will be selected to participate in this second annual event. College and University coaches from around the country will be in attendance to evaluate the players.  The respective coaches’ organizations will select the participants.

The boys’ event will be held at Ben Davis High School on April 17, 2004.  The girls’ showcase is scheduled for July 24, 2004 at Ben Davis High School.

ONE CHANGE IN ICGSA GIRLS BASKETBALL RANKINGS

With the exception of Class 4A, there were no changes in the top spots in this week’s Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association’s weekly basketball polls.

In 4A, Hamilton Southeastern remained undefeated in nine games and took over the No. 1 slot following Bloomington North’s 62-54 2ot defeat at Castle on Saturday.  With the loss, the Cougars fell to 7-1 on the season. New Albany (#9) and South Bend Washington (#10) joined the top-10.

In Class 3A, Tippecanoe Valley (8-0) again shows the way, with Rushville (#8) and Scottsburg (#10) the lone arrivals there.  The Class 2A leader, Shenandoah (8-0), was joined in the elite-10 by Garrett (#10) and in Class A, North Vermillion (6-1) is still out front, with Morristown (#10-t) joining the ranks.

Dropping out of the top-10:  North Central (Indpls.) (4A), Pike (4A); Pendleton Heights (3A); New Castle (3A); Taylor (2A); and Triton (A).
