STATE FOOTBALL FINALS THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND

The 32nd Annual IHSAA Football Tournament Series heads to the State Finals round this Friday and Saturday at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.  Ticket will be available at the participating schools or the RCA Dome Box Office.  General admission each day is $10.00 or a season ticket may be purchased for $18.00.

 

Class A – Friday, 3:30 p.m.

Seeger (14-0) vs. Indianapolis Ritter (10-4)

Seeger was state runner-up to Indpls. Ritter last year (0-28)

Ritter state champs in 1977, 2003; state runner-up 1987, 1991, 1992

 

Class 2A – Friday, 7:00 p.m.

Eastbrook (14-0) vs. Tri-West Hendricks (14-0)

Eastbrook has never won a football state championship

Tri-West state champs in 1996, 2003; state runner-up 1989, 1995

 

Class 3A – Saturday, 12:00 Noon

Andrean (12-2) vs. Heritage Hills (14-0)

Andrea has never won a football state championship; state runner-up 1997, 2001

SHIFT AT TOP IN LATEST ICGSA GIRLS BASKETBALL POLLS

Evansville Memorial and Shenandoah moved into the top spots in the latest ICGSA Class 2A and Class 3A polls respectively this week, moving up one notch from the pre-season poll one week ago.  Bloomington North stayed atop the chart in 4A, while Fort Wayne Canterbury and Indianapolis Lutheran were deadlocked for the No. 1 slot in class A.

CENTER GROVE / CARMEL HEAD UP PRE-SEASON SWIM POLLS

The Indiana High School Swim Coaches Association has released its 2004-05 pre-season polls. Regular season competition is now underway, with the state championships to be decided February 11-12 (girls) and February 25-26 (boys) at the I.U. Natatorium in Indianapolis.

 

Last year’s boys state champion, Carmel, is pre-season ranked #3.  Homestead, the 2003 runner-up, is slotted at #9.  Center Grove, which finished 6th in last year’s state meet, leads the way in the boys pre-season poll, with North Central (Indianapolis), No. 4 in the 2004 state meet, in the runner-up position.

 

Last year’s girls state champ, Carmel, holds down the top spot in 2004-05, with last year’s second place finisher, North Central (Indianapolis), in the second position.

GYMNASTICS PRE-SEASON PRACTICE BEGINS

Monday, November 22, was the official date for practice to get underway in gymnastics in preparation for the 2004-05 season.  The date for the first competition is Monday, December 6.  The state tournament will begin on March 5, 2005, and conclude with the state finals at Perry Meridian High School on March 19.

IHSAA OVERTIME

Eric Augustus recently resigned after four years as head coach of the volleyball team at Northfield.

 

Hammond assistant varsity girls basketball coach Jesette Perkins has been called to active duty with the Indiana National Guard and is departing for training at Camp Atterbury for deployment to Iraq.

 

Gibson Southern has announced the resignations of football coach John Obermeier and boys soccer coach Dan Gomez.
