GIRLS GOLF REGIONALS THIS SATURDAY
All seven defending regional
champions from a year ago have advanced to this year’s regional round of
the 35th Annual IHSAA Girls Golf State Tournament Series. Eighteen-hole action
is scheduled for seven courses around the state this Saturday, Sept. 22, with
the top three teams at each site, along with the top three individuals
(including ties for third place) not with an advancing team earning a spot in
next week’s state finals.
Evansville Memorial will be
trying for a fifth consecutive regional title Saturday at Quail Crossing while top-ranked
Martinsville will be gunning for its fourth straight while hosting festivities
at Foxcliff.
Last weekend, four of the
top five teams in the state coaches poll posted sectional titles including Martinsville
which won at Twin Bridges for its fifth consecutive sectional. No. 2 Brebeuf
Jesuit won at Eagle Creek Pines for its first crown since 1999. No. 3
Indianapolis Cathedral won at South Grove, its third straight, and No. 5
Noblesville won at Grandview for its third in four seasons. No. 4 Avon took
runner-up honors to Martinsville at Twin Bridges.
Twin Lakes continued its
dominance in the sectionals winning its 10th consecutive crown, the
state’s longest active string in the sport, while at Wheatfield’s
Sandy Pines Golf Course. Evansville Memorial and Greensburg also extended their
sectional streaks to eight straight years.
Chesterton, Franklin
Central, Norwell, South Bend St. Joseph’s and Washington each won its
first sectional championship in girls golf.
Results
from each regional site will be posted to the IHSAA website as they become
available from the hosts. Also, pairings and tee-times for the state finals are
scheduled to be available Monday morning barring any weather delays.
