Michael Lewis of Jasper reigned as the 1995-96 IHSAA boys basketball scoring
champion with a 31.5 average. His total of 852 points was the most in the state
since Pat Graham of Floyd Central scored 864 points in 27 games during the
1988-89 season. Lewis' 1995-96 total ranked 16th on the all-time season list.
His career total of 2,138 in 94 games ranked him in a three-way tie for 12th on
the state chart.
Kevin Ault of Warsaw finished second to Lewis with 844 points and a 30.1
average. Ault became the 28th player in state history to crack the 2,000-point
milestone when he scored 31 points against New Albany in the state semifinals,
his final high school game. Ault finished his career with 2,028 points in 92
games, good for 24th on the state career list. His season total of 844 ranks
20th on the all-time season chart.
Of the final top 25 scorers for 1995-96, 18 are seniors. Among the seven
underclassmen, the top average was Perry Central's Matt Carter at 29.7.
