Park Tudor topples Frankton to continue its dominacne in Class 2A
If there was any doubt that the Park Tudor rebounded Frankton by a 46-20 margin.
Panthers would capture another state champion-
ship, they eliminated it in the third quarter. The Coach Brent Brobston’s Frankton team, ranked fourth in the AP
Panthers held the Frankton Eagles to 1-of-12 Poll, finished its season at 26-3. The school won its first regional
shooting in the third to break open the game en and semi-state titles over the last two weeks. Austin Compton led
route to a 73-46 victory in the Class 2A final. the Eagles in scoring and rebounding with 22 and seven.
For Park Tudor, it was the fourth boys state title
in five seasons. Coach Kyle Cox’s top-ranked
Panthers won their last 14 games to finish 26-2.
They went 16-0 against other 2A teams and 4-0
against 3A squads, suffering their only two losses
to Class 4A Southport and Indianapolis North
Central.
Bryce Moore topped Park Tudor with 31 points,
hitting 10-of-14 from the field and 9-of-11 from the
foul line. Five straight points from Moore provided
the Panthers with their first 20-point lead with 3:26
remaining in the fourth quarter.
Jaren Jackson Jr. and Evan Frank each scored 11
points for Park Tudor. Frank also had 11 rebounds
to complete a double-double. Park Tudor out-
Barr-Reeve tops Marquette Catholic in Class A, gains elusive 1st title
The Barr-Reeve Vikings played to their strengths: They
produced stout defense. They controlled the game with their
pace. They created free throws for themselves.
In the end, it brought the Vikings what has eluded them until
now. Barr-Reeve’s 65-50 victory over Marquette Catholic in
the Class A final gained for the Vikings their first boys basket-
ball state championship. Barr-Reeve was making its second
consecutive trip to the final game and the third in six years.
The Vikings held Marquette Catholic to 20-plus points under
its season scoring average. The Blazers managed only 36.7
shooting from the field.
Barr-Reeve shot 41.5 percent from the field and hit 26-of-36
free throws for a Class A title game record for foul shots
made. Barr-Reeve owned a 14-point lead at halftime and
its disciplined offense held the Blazers at bay through the
second half. Barr-Reeve committed only seven turnovers in
the game.
When Marquette Catholic pulled within 10, at 46-36, with
4:56 left in the game, Barr-Reeve quickly extended its lead
with a 9-1 run.
Duncan Roy led Barr-Reeve with 17 points while Seth
Swartzentruber had 16 and Addison Wagler had 12. Wagler
and Logan James tied for the team lead with seven rebounds
apiece.
Ryan Fazekas led Marquette Catholic with 18 points while
Tommy Wilson had 13. Cameron Hall led the Blazers with
eight rebounds.
Coach Bryan Hughes’ Barr-Reeve team, ranked second in
the AP Poll, won its last 20 games and finished 17-2. Coach
Donovan Garletts’ Marquette Catholic squad, ranked fifth,
finished at 24-7.
