C. Eugene Cato Mental Attitude Award
At the conclusion of the state finals, the IHSAA Executive Committee will present the
C. Eugene Cato Mental Attitude Award to an outstanding senior participant in the boys
soccer state tournament.
The recipient of this award, nominated by his principal and coach, must excel in mental
attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability in soccer.
The award is named in honor of Mr. Cato, who served as the Association’s fifth com-
missioner from 1983 to 1995, helping soccer become the IHSAA’s 10th sponsored sport
for boys and girls.
Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, IHSAA Corporate Partner, will present a scholarship
award of $1,000 to the school in the name of the recipient. Since 1989, over $840,000 in
C. Eugene Cato college scholarships has been presented to deserving high school students in Indiana.
