Charles F. Maas Mental Attitude Award
At the conclusion of the state finals, the IHSAA Executive Committee will present the Charles F. Maas
Mental Attitude Award to the outstanding senior participant in the Boys Cross Country State Tournament.
The award was named after the late Charles F. Maas by the IHSAA Executive Committee on February
3, 1985. Mr. Maas devoted a lifetime to Indiana high school athletic programs as player, coach, athletic
director and IHSAA Assistant Commissioner from 1973 until his passing in 1984.
The recipient of this award, who was nominated by his principal and coach, must excel in mental
attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability in cross country.
Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, IHSAA corporate partner, will present a $1,000 scholarship to the
school in the name of the recipient. Since 1989, over $840,000 in college scholarships have been presented
Charles F. Maas to deserving high school students in Indiana.
