Patricia L. Roy Mental Attitude Award

At the conclusion of each championship game, members of the IHSAA Executive Committee
present the Patricia L. Roy Mental Attitude Award to an outstanding senior participant.
The recipients of this award, who were nominated by their principals and coaches, must excel
in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability in basketball.
Roy joined the IHSAA Executive Staff in 1972 and administered the sport of girls basketball
from the inception of the tournament series in 1976 until her retirement in 1999. The award was
named in her honor beginning in 2000. Regarded both statewide and nationally as a pioneer in
girls athletics, Roy served on the IHSAA Executive Staff longer than anyone in the history of the
Association.
As the presenting partners of the state tournament, the Indiana Fever and Indiana Pacers, pres-
Patricia L. Roy ent a $1,000 scholarship to the school in the name of the recipient.
