s e c t i o n 1 2015-16: A Year Of Passion, Pageantry And Progress
1 An Overview
“Progress” is a word that accurately
describes the Indiana High School
Athletic Association during the
2015-16 school year.
Increased attendance at multiple IHSAA state tournaments,
the elimination of the one week overlap between the last week
of the girls state basketball tournament and the first week
of the boys tournament, signing multi-year contracts with
new corporate partners, creating the IHSAA Foundation,
and continuing to serve the IHSAA membership with a more
robust sportsmanship program are excellent examples of the
remarkable progress that has been made during the past year.
At the same time, the IHSAA board, commissioners and staff
have handled the same administrative responsibilities that
are necessary to address every year in a smooth and efficient
manner. Tournament sites have been determined. Tournament
officials have been assigned. Proposals from coaches associ-
ations have been heard, studied and voted upon. By-laws have
been amended to keep current with the times. Income has
been distributed to member schools. And literally thousands of
eligibility requests have been heard and evaluated with more
than 84% of all applicants being awarded full eligibility and
less than 1% being denied any eligibility at all.
In a sentence, the 2015-16 school year has been productive in
every way!
