2017–18: IHSAA Leadership
Meet the IHSAA
Leadership Team
Many of the same attributes that are required to be an
outstanding high school athlete are also necessary to serve on
the IHSAA’s leadership team, which consists of board members,
the commissioner and assistant commissioners and a dedicated
staff of experienced business professionals.
It requires commitment. Because there are 21 tournament
events, all of which occur on weekends, it means that board
members, commissioners and staff members are often not
available to spend time with families and friends on Friday
nights and Saturdays.
It requires a strong work ethic. Monthly board meetings,
committee meetings and hearings, coupled with job respon-
sibilities at home, make the traditional 8 to 5 job a virtual
impossibility.
It requires focus. Examining the pros and cons of the dozens
of issues and eligibility requests that come before the board
every year is a big job. Because every decision the board makes
has consequences, nothing it does can be handled casually.
It requires resourcefulness. The creativity and ingenuity
of the board and administrative staff helps make the IHSAA
one of America’s leading high school associations.
It requires passion. IHSAA board members, commissioners
and staff members care. They care about high school sports,
and they care about kids. It’s what makes their jobs worth-
while and fun.
Meet the educators who comprise the IHSAA leadership team.
