A Letter from the Chairman of the Executive Committee
Indiana: A State of Promise
Are you feeling hopeful about the future?
If you watch the evening news or pay much attention to social media posts, a
more productive, settled, empathetic world might seem light years away.
On the other hand, if you attended any of the thousands of high school
athletic events hosted this year by the IHSAA’s member-schools, you’re
probably marveling about a world of unlimited possibilities.
Because instead of polarization, you’ve seen teenagers with complimentary
skills come together as a team to achieve a common goal.
Instead of entitlement, you’ve seen high school student-athletes enjoy
remarkable success through hard work, determination, resolve and grit.
And instead of disregard and disdain, you’ve seen young men and women
express the highest level of respect for contest rules, officials, coaches and
each other.
These are the life-skills learned by participating in education-based
athletics. And it’s the reason we can look forward to a society not riddled by
chaos and conflict, but one where order, mutual approbation, cooperation
and collaboration abound.
I am happy to report the promise in Indiana is bright and robust, largely
because of the significant role high school sports play in nurturing our
leaders of tomorrow.
On behalf of the IHSAA Board of Directors, administrative staff and its 410
member-schools, thank you for your support of high school sports in Indiana.
Sincerely,
Brian Strong
Chairman, IHSAA Executive Committee
