Dear IHSAA Stakeholders:

As a high school principal, I am filled with great pride to introduce this
year’s annual report, which comes with the theme “Year of the Educator.”
More than ever, educators deserve to be celebrated, as their daily impact and
their impact on the future well-being of students is often grossly overlooked.

Also overlooked is the impact that coaches, athletic directors, and
administrators have on student-athletes. After all, individuals in these
roles are mentors who impart life lessons to a younger generation.
Individuals in these roles can be just as impactful as educators in the
classroom. In fact, in the eyes of the IHSAA, they are educators.

This year’s annual report should help reinforce the Association’s view
that education should be kept at the forefront of athletics. And I want to
express my gratitude for the dedication and commitment of all IHSAA
stakeholders who are also champions of education. Our collective efforts
enable us to continue to provide opportunities for student-athletes to
grow and learn through high school sports in Indiana.

High school sports in Indiana are part of a complete curriculum, with
athletics serving as the last class of the day. Through sports, we can focus
on the whole student-athlete and teach complicated life lessons such as
grit, resiliency, and respect, all of which are essential to a healthy adult
life and translate to future career success.

Thank you again for your continued support and commitment to the
IHSAA. Let’s work together to continue to provide opportunities for all
student-athletes to grow and learn through education-based athletics.
