               LET TER FROM THE

               My Fellow Teammates:
Victor Bush has served on the IHSAA Board of
The 50th Anniversary of Title IX deserves a grand commemoration, and Directors and Executive Committee since the
this Annual Report is just one small part of adequately celebrating our 2011-12 school year. The Minority Representative of
past and present IHSAA female student-athletes. the Association’s South District, Victor works for
the MSD of Lawrence Township in Indianapolis.
In addition to Title IX, I would like to take a moment—since we are in the
celebratory spirit—to recognize and honor the institution of education-
based athletics as one that is utterly necessary for the development of
our students, as one that ought to fill us with confidence for the future.

In the context of what we as citizens have weathered the last few years,
education-based athletics has proven to be a beacon of light for the
               future of society.

I know few, if any, who could argue against the lessons and values that
the education-based athletics curriculum aims to instill in its learners.

I am also unaware of a more practical approach to teaching teamwork
than education-based athletics. I can say the same about resiliency,
respecting the rules, and developing empathy.

If education-based athletics taught our student-athletes only those four
things—of course, there are many more—then our heads ought to be held
high with optimism for the future.

So, let’s hold our heads high as we celebrate the power of education-
based athletics, this year’s accomplishments, and all past and present
               IHSAA female student-athletes.

Where will education-based athletics take the next generation of
               student-athletes?
