s e c t i o n 2 2015-16 Financial Review
2 An Overview
If increased tournament attendance
is a measure of financial health, the
2015-16 school year was a positive one
for the IHSAA.
Revenue for the fall sports was up more than 8%, largely
because of increased attendance in football, boys soccer, girls
soccer and volleyball. Tournament attendance was up in
winter sports as well, with girls swimming, boys swimming,
wrestling, and both basketball tournaments (girls and boys)
reporting increases.
Variables from year to year greatly influence tournament
attendance. Weather, competitive match-ups, degree of school
support, and the presence of “star” athletes all have a huge
effect on the number of fans who attend high school tourna-
ment events, and these factors typically change from one year
to the next. This said, it’s undeniably a positive trend when
attendance increases for so many of the IHSAA’s 21 sports
during the same school year.
