Financial Review
The IHSAA has
always put its
member-schools first.
And 2019-20 was no
exception.
Here are two points that every high school administrator,
educator and coach in Indiana will appreciate:
• In 2019-20, the IHSAA returned over $2.28 million to
member-schools while keeping $1.67 million for opera-
tions, despite the fact that it received no income from the
boys basketball or spring sport tournaments.
• And while the revenue that was returned to member-
schools in 2019-20 was about 11% less than the previous
year, the IHSAA retained 30% less money to operate on.
Unlike many state associations, the IHSAA does not charge its
member-schools an annual membership fee or any tournament
entry fees, and yet it continues to provide a list of amenities
that some member-schools would be hard pressed to provide
for themselves. In addition, schools compete for state champi-
onship trophies in world-class venues, resulting in memories
that last a lifetime for student-athletes and fans.
Going forward, the administrative staff continues to explore
ways to operate efficiently without diminishing the invaluable
support it provides its member-schools and the 160,000
student-athletes they serve.
Much of the credit for remaining financially viable during
an extraordinarily tough time goes to the IHSAA’s corporate
partners. Our gratitude to them is without measure.
