 At the IHSAA,
 Education Comes First

An animating principle for the IHSAA is its
determination to always keep education at
the forefront of athletics—and this informs
 IHSAA transfer policy.

 The Association is not an

 organization that is resistant

 to change. In addition to

 the nine new pathways to

 eligibility mentioned, the

 IHSAA has approved 26

changes to its bylaws over the

past 10 years in response to

 the changing landscape of

 high school athletics.

However, as amateur athletics continue to
experience a sea change, the Association
will remain steadfast in how it approaches
and evolves its transfer policy—and that
policy will always be rooted in ensuring that
high school athletics remain a fair and pure
 competition between student-athletes for
 their growth and development.

Evan O’Connor from Chesterton and Weston
Hulen from Crown Point take off their spikes
after running at the 78th Annual Boys Cross
Country State Finals at the LaVern Gibson
Championship Course in Terre Haute. The
respect that develops between competitors is
part of the growth student-athletes learn to
 appreciate through participation in education-
 based athletics.
